ADA Compliance
Various Clients

As the Federal requirements for ADA compliance and Title 24 in California have become more onerous and more vigorously enforced, Sorcinelli Architects Inc. has added services to provide our clients support in this area. Every project must comply with accessibility requirements and this means we are always re-visiting these requirements in our day to day work as Architects. We consequently have an informed and realistic approach to these issues. In addition to ADA compliance surveys, SAI provide design/remediation services to assist clients in rectifying the non-compliant elements of their buildings and sites.

Normal services for exisiting projects start with an on site survey/audit where non-compliant elements are identified. SAI then provides a report that describes the defects and identifies the code sections which are implicated. Lastly the report provides a written recommendation as to how the matter can be rectified. In some cases, drawings will then be required to completely describe the work that will be necessary to correct the area of non-compliance. It our experience, projects built prior to the year 2000, are likely to have a number of items, which under the current interpretation of the ADA and the Building Code, would be considered non-compliant. Clients would be prudent to undertake an ADA project survey/audit to identify the issues of non-compliance and consequent vulnerability. Pre-emptive action could help to avoid possible complaints and litigation which may follow.
